About

So here it is! CoCo and the Butterfields' very own Clothesline, stacked with an array of colourful patchwork things to wear and cherish. It has been brought to life in order to sell handmade garments that express true style and character, and is a sister project to rising Kentish band CoCo and the Butterfields; a group whose affinity with design and creation makes Clothesline a natural and inevitable step.

That step was initiated by band member Dulcima who has a lifelong history of clothes-making, and whose signature patchwork panels and fraying edges are fast becoming synonymous with the CoCo and the Butterfield image. The band itself has amassed a fan-base that spans a widely varied audience, which meant it was very important for Clothesline to cater for all shapes and sizes! The designs have been inspired by a mix of traditional English fashion, fictional and mythical characters but predominantly that old time, understated attitude - make do and mend.

Dulcima is a self taught dress-maker who has been cutting up old sheets and curtains and reshaping clothes for over ten years. Having learnt from trial and error on the unwanted fabrics donated to her by relatives, Dulcima developed a wide knowledge of clothes design and construction. Over the years, she has accumulated a huge collection of garments worn frequently on stage and just as many unfinished projects that were just too frustrating to complete... With a rich portfolio of one off avant-garde pieces, highly elaborate and unique evening wear, stage wear and costumes for theatre, short films and music videos, Dulcima's two passions, music and sewing, have been united through CoCo and the Butterfields and Clothesline. So she's a happy bunny.

Finally, it's important to let you know what we, the band and fashion label, are all about. We believe in supporting creativity in every form and aim to support innovation, fusion and new ideas in music, art and fashion. The Clothesline range is based on a patched-together, almost homemade look which pioneers a do-it-yourself attitude. We encourage this so as to counteract today's modern throw-away culture which is creeping up over us like a large invisible creepy thing. We want to produce things that will last and be loved which is why our garments are strictly sold on a buy-once-keep-forever basis. We hope this works for you too.
