Band Bio:

Colourful, energetic & crowd-stamping, CoCo and the Butterfields express all the fun and vibrance of a village folk fair, throwing in powerful vocals and a beatbox to deliver catchy songs resonating in a stadium-filling pop and urban rap vibe.

Yet the atmosphere is intimate, popular with audiences of all ages. The uniquely styled music transcends genre, skipping right to the part where people start dancing. CoCo and the Butterfields are on a mission to bring people from all backgrounds together, to have a good time!

All previously buskers, the spirit of jamming together and combining styles came naturally when Jamie (beatbox) was first invited by Tom and Dulcima to provide percussion for the early CATB recordings in 2012, and the band quickly grew into the 5 piece it is today, with Micah and Handsome Rob learning new instruments to extend the sound.

The five used to cram themselves and their instruments inside “Ron” to get to gigs, their colourful bandwagon, until the wheel fell off in their home town of Canterbury...

...so along came “Frank”! Who knows what will come next?!

The band have released four EPs, in the spirit of “let’s get the music out there”. Warriors (2013), King of the Corner (2013), Fip Fok (2014) and See the Sun (2014).

Warriors, one of the most anthemic songs, was launched at a sell out show at Canterbury’s 1,200 capacity Marlowe Theatre followed by the release of the self-made fantasy music video, featuring the creation of an entire world, band members cast as lead characters and a trilogy film series to follow.

Their latest release, See the Sun, saw each band member create a superhero persona for the music video which featured a comic book style story and some home-made effects.

See the Sun was launched at Kent’s biggest venue, the 2,400 capacity Winter Gardens, where Tom’s nan once saw the Beatles perform.

The show featured CoCo and the Butterfields supported by brass and strings sections, guest beatboxers plus an 80 adult choir and a 150 strong children’s choir from 5 local schools. Dulcima built a 7-foot sun which hung behind the band in front of a wall bedecked with starry LEDs.

And loads of lovely people came!

In 2014 the band performed 3 slots at Glastonbury. It was the first time any of them had been and they enjoyed it very much. They also made an appearance at many other major festivals, with plenty of the stage managers commenting that they were the "act of the year".

The "Little Big Tour" (their first official UK tour) took place between April - May 2014, more details available here. Sometimes Rob irritates the others, so he is swapped for a carrot on the posters. The Butterfields will be touring again straight after the festival season in the Autumn, so if you want them to visit you’d better let them know!

The band maintain profiles on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Soundcloud and Flickr.

“Their energy in both live shows and recordings is infectious and the blend of various styles works wonderfully. Ones to watch for the future.”
Adam Dowling, BBC Radio Kent

“The song Astronaut stuck in my head that night, the whole bar was singing along, clapping and stomping, you can’t imagine the buzz these guys caused.”
Kate Lynn Devere, Gashouse Radio

The stand out band from the weekend were CoCo and the Butterfields who absolutely blew the festival away on each day. On Sunday they performed on the small farmhouse stage slap bang in the middle of the day and yet still had a large crowd going wild. This band are heading to the big time with their mix of folk, country and even a beat boxer offering percussion as well as sick solos.

“Bespoke music but not as you know it – CoCo and the Butterfields are a young acoustic fivepiece who have managed the almost impossible task of creating a sound that is almost entirely unique...A great entertaining and totally unique band at last.
Dan Lucas, Record Producer

There should be a law saying that CoCo and the Butterfields should only be allowed to play outdoor venues as they are so raucous and fun that any indoor space runs the risk of having its roof and walls blown clean away. These guys are just great, infectious and rowdy, just what live music should be.
Baylen Leonard, Amazing Radio

CoCo and the Butterfields were far and away the most engaging, animated and exciting band of the festival.
